We had a fantastic time at DisruptHR Cardiff recently, thank you to all of the speakers for another great event. Here are our key takeaways and the videos of the talks. Be sure to follow Insight HRC Ltd page on Linked In to catch up on our latest news and events.
Dr Sian Mulcahy talked us through her M.A.G.I.C model – and how we can genuinely invest in the people within our organisations by ensuring they have positive and meaningful relationships. And also, how we can all be more Phil!
Dr. Katherine Parsons encouraged us to interrogate how HR departments align with organisational strategy in Generative AI utilisation, before detailing just how to balance people first work approaches with the growing use of AI in the workplace.
Matthew Phelan co-founder of The Happiness Index, told the story of ‘John the Beetle’ and how safety, acknowledgement, freedom and relationships are the recipe to achieving happiness.
Neil Young used the classic Disney story of Aladdin to highlight how HR can be the genie to ensure that employees that are the ‘diamonds in the rough’ always get a chance to shine and what three wishes HR can grant in order to alleviate financial stresses and enable them.
Gemma Krasucka explored how we as humans have begun to allow social awkwardness to take over, and how we settle for digital interactions such as social media and using tools such as ChatGPT. But that we can tap into our innate desire for connection, recognise our real life social networks and utilise group learning environments.
Phil Hawkins compelled us to ask questions, and to be curious. Staying silent and not asking questions out of fear is never a good thing, and that genuine curiosity, even in what may be a seemingly simple interaction can always lead to something to be gained. Most of all though, to be ‘curious about how curious you are as an organisation’.
Jane Hodgson 🍀 shared the secret to unlocking empowerment in employees (it’s far more straightforward then you think!). Empowerment isn’t something you can ‘give’ employees, but an environment in which they can attain it for themselves, where they have ‘the freedom to act with CARE’ – Competence, Authority & Accountability, Resources and Engagement.
Dr Ashish Bhatia made sleep simple in just 6 steps: See the sky at sunrise and sunset & switch off screens 2 hours before bed, exercise or walk outside even if its for 30 seconds, Cut caffeine after noon & have you last meal 3 hrs before bed, cool your bedroom to 18*C, cool your mind with time to relax and finally ensure your bed its solely for sleep and sex and that any other stresses are taken care of elsewhere.
Finally, Pip Gwynn shared the hot topics that are going to shape during 2025. How we can have a balance between in person and remote work and what studies show is best. How great leaders and managers can make learning stick and understand emotional triggers. And how to overcome overwhelm by working with people to understand themselves, key obstacles and building new habits.
