Insight HRC collaborated with the Executive Team at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to build a high-performing leadership team under a new Chief Executive. Amid the challenges of the pandemic and regulatory pressures, the program focused on enhancing crisis leadership, resilience, and team dynamics.
The initiative included workshops, personality profiling, and regular strategy sessions using the Neuroscience of Teams model. Ongoing feedback and one-on-one sessions with the Chief Executive ensured the program remained focused on key priorities. The approach successfully accelerated team cohesion and effectiveness, enabling the team to navigate challenges effectively.
The aim of the programme was to build a high performing team quickly, a team that would work well together even under significant pressure and would take into account a wide range of views, experiences and professions. This was delivered with a backdrop of the pandemic, financial, regulatory and sector reputation challenges.
An initial two-day team workshop reviewing team strengths, clarifying purpose, values and goals, allowed the building of psychological safety through a deeper understanding of each other.
Personality profiling, and 1-1 feedback sessions took place to truly understand team dynamics and organisational culture prior to the programme commencing. A team questionnaire and interviews allowed us to understand areas for change and needs of the business.
We began the programme with full-day workshops to build team dynamics, behaviours & ways of working. Holding Regular bi-monthly “strategy sessions” focusing on hot topics and working through the Neuroscience of Teams model ensured engagement and focus were maintained.
Team meeting observations with feedback to enable more efficient and effective team work proved invaluable, allowing every voice to be heard and challenges met constructively.
One-to-ones with the Chief Executive to review changes to team dynamics and performance as well as identify priority areas to cover in workshops were scheduled regularly and enabled us to deliver interventions that tackled current issues.
Self-assessment by the team against the Neuroscience of Teams model identified progress and measured impact.
Feedback from the Chief Executive has indicated that the programme supported the team to work effectively through the pandemic by accelerating the team formation and bonding process. Our flexible and dynamic approach has enabled the work to focus on key priority areas, tackling them quickly and collaboratively.
